Samuel Eto’o offers a Porsche Porsche Cayenne to Roger Milla
A Christmas and reconciliation gesture from Eto’o to Milla.
According to Spanish news site Marca and French So-Foot, newly crowned African Footballer of the Year Samuel Eto’o has offered a Porsche Cayenne and a check for 30,000 euros to Cameroon football legend Roger Milla as a Christmas present.
But local analysts in Cameroon say the Inter Milan forward was likely using the superfluous gesture to seal both men’s reconciliation after a bitter moment in the nation’s football.
Eto’o and Milla had falling out with each other, mostly via the media, exchanging harsh words, after Milla said he had the feelings Eto’o played with more passion for his club than the national team. This was prior to the 2010 World Cup.
The three-time UEFA Champions League champion had retorted, demanding the 1990 World Cup hero show Cameroonians his concrete contributions to the country’s football. Eto’o had also threatened to boycott the 2010 World Cup.
The country’s sports minister and FA president stepped in and reconciled “father and son”, as used by Milla when he came out of a reunion meeting with Eto’o all smiles, describing Eto’o as his son and the best striker in the world. Eto’o also called him a father.
